Chergui 50ml by Serge Lutens

Chergui is a portrait in scent of the lovely island of Chergui, off the coast of Tunisia. The glamorous name also refers to the blistering heat of the summer desert wind from the south that sweeps Morocco from the Sahara; the two derivations of the title may be complementary. Crossing all boundaries of gender and culture, Chergui is a spicy oriental dream which has been rapturously described as the smell of sugar, the scent of hay, the fragrance of sweet woodsmoke.

"Serene, smooth, creamy and laced with all the best notes blown in on a hot Sahara breeze. It is as if Chergui has been hewn from a single block of the palest, smoothest wood, carved by an old master who taps his pipe out onto the hay and sawdust floor and packs it full of honeyed tobacco as he regards his handy work. Every corner of Chergui has been lovingly rounded & carefully sanded. The timber isn't polished it is left bare & velvety to the touch - the raw, resinous aromas release under the warm caress of a hand. The seat is suede, the wood has been burnt into with a hot-poker to create intricate designs and the sweet, smoky trails hover above the balsamic base. Chergui has nods to wonderful, smoky skin-scents like Barbara Bui & soft putty-suede scents like Jacomo Arts No 2 but in Chergui they are amped up to a meatier level. The pale sandalwood and almond-milk note are thoroughly enjoyable. Very natural, sweet but not sickly, rich yet mid-weight, dry as a bone yet not raspy and as smooth as silk all the way. The scent lasts well with a polite, modest sillage."
