Houbigant commenced trading in 1775 from their premises in Rue Fauboug St Honore, Paris. Outside this establishment hung a simple basket of flowers that remains today, the symbol and logo for brand.
For over a century they had been creating fragrances for the Royal Courts of Europe and Russia from Marie Antoinette to Czar Nicholas II and Queen Victoria. But it was in the 1880's that Houbigant gained further acclaim for being the first perfumers to embrace and truly understand the importance of the new synthetic aroma notes that were being developed at that time.
