Inspiration

If perfume is a woman, this is Audrey Totter, Bacall, Barbara Stanwyck – a tough-talking, hard-boiled dame with a heart of pure mush. She loves them and leaves them but carries the torch for that one guy…. There’s a fleshy accord of Ambre Solaire which darkens lily of the valley, jasmine, orange flowers and blends with the earthiness and masculine notes of cocoa, musc and patchouli. But don't get me wrong, deep down she’s all woman.

Etat Libre d'Orange
Etat Libre d'Orange

Etat libre d'Orange is the creation of the South African born but truly international, and very conceptual, Etienne de Swardt. "Perfume is Dead! Long Live Perfume!" is his war-cry, celebrating a new No Man’s Land of perfume where literally anything goes, where “provocative” does not just mean saucy teasing but cocking a shocking snook at authority and the establishment, and advancing the frontiers of olfactory science, art and discovery.

The brilliant team of Noses flaunt their sexuality in their creations, but however avant-garde, Etat Libre d'Orange's standards of craftsmanship and quality are second to none. Their materials are of the finest quality, their inspirations are challenging, amusing, and sometimes disturbing.
