Les Senteurs’ first candle collection is inspired by the history of the Hawksley and Nicholson families, who came together as Michael and Betty Hawksley – the co-founders of Les Senteurs.
Betty’s mother lived as a small child in Madagascar. As we investigated, we learned of this unique island’s rich and abundant natural resources and the possible scientifically beneficial potential of its flora.
There are stories that pirates founded their own anarchist colony in Madagascar, which they named Libertalia. On Libertalia, the pirates supposedly created a new language and operated a socialist economy.
Since 1984 Les, Senteurs (‘the scents’) has been a haven of fragrance tranquillity, away from the bustling crowds and fast pace of the department store.
